I spent a week at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Helsinki, in January 2012. To be honest I originally aimed for something less corporate but for a variety of reasons I sort of chickened out and stayed here. It suited me fine, in fact I found it very comfortable and was happy with my choice, despite losing die-hard funky traveller points with those who prefer a little more grit in the sandwich.
The one thing I really started to dislike was this sculpture in front of the building. It’s nice enough to look at, and when the wind blows, its various elements rotate to make it interesting. Unfortunately there was a great deal of wind and a great shortage of WD-40 or plain ordinary oil, so it was noisy. I was dealing with jet lag and waking up in the middle of the night anyway and was on the verge of needing anger management training by the last night.
So, Crowne Plaza, if you could just get that fixed, you’d rise in my humble estimation.
